Hail to the king, Duke Nukem Forever is officially complete

In what is said to be one of the first signs of the coming apocalypse, development of Duke Nukem Forever has, so it’s been confirmed by 2K Games, finally finished. News comes after the confirmation that Borderlands developers Gearbox have been secretly working on the game after the demise of it’s original creators 3D Realms.

Duke Nukem Forever, for those of you who have been enjoying the cool weather under that rock of yours, was once tipped to be one of the biggest First Person Shooters ever released when it was originally announced. Only that was back in the late 90’s when the FPS genre was still fairly empty. The game quickly got pushed back into development hell where it remained in hiding in 3D Realms offices, barely showing it’s face for a full decade.

Just to put that in perspective, DNF was announced in 1997 (or the last millennium,) the internet was still in it’s infancy, the limit of Microsoft’s video game development extended only to re-releases of Pac-Man and I hadn’t even done my GCSE’s yet.

Both 2K and Gearbox used the Penny Arcade Expo to announce the game’s revival, though have yet to show any footage. Demo’s where available to visitors however, and some shaky-cam video has since been leaked onto youtube showing the newly updated game in it’s glory.

Details are still sketchy at this time, though Gearbox have apparently been working on Duke since 2009, hence it’s now complete status. An expected release date has been set for 2011, with the game appearing on PC, X-Box 360 and PS3
