Various Publishers Are Demanding Pirates Pay Up



I don’t know if how much of this kind of thing is going on in the US, but TorrentFreak tells us that in Europe right now several publishers — including Atari, Ubisoft, Square Enix, and Codemasters — are tearing up Europe, demanding that pirates pay as much as 800 euro for each title they got illegally.

They’re doing this by tracking IP addresses, which, as we all know, is a silly thing to do when we’re talking about bittorrent, because most clients don’t use users own IPs when downloading and sharing. So that means while some actual pirates may be targeted, a bunch of innocent folks are probably also getting letters. Sigh.

CD Projekt Red pulled something similar over The Witcher 2 piracy, but they’ve since called off the dogs. Now those are some chill bros.
